but two big questions every year are "Can I bring my kids" and "Can I bring my dog". Yes, kids and dogs love the Woodzie more than anybody and as long as you and they can handle it please bring them.
On kids and dogs: just realize that this isn't the park, it's a natural wild area that people only camp in once a year. It's what makes it great but you have to be on your toes. We do have a kid's area that we mow and have some toys laid out in. We check that for ant piles and make it as "city slicker" ready as we can. Of course the cool thing with your kidos is to take them walking in the woods and let them explore and just the whole camping experience but that area is a spot you can take them if you need it.
Don't bring your dog if you aren't completely certain that it won't bite Hippies, fight with other dogs, bark all day and night or run off. They catch a whiff of a deer scent and you can call your poodle all you want but he'll be solid gone. We've seen them come panting back after an hour covered in sweat and sticker burrs and in a state of complete nirvana. Like Jimmie says, do not forget to bring a leash, you may need it for a dog that usually doesn't. For instance, we ourselves don't bring our three German Shepherds. They don't meet any of those four points of the Woodzie code of dog behavior. No bite, fight, bark or lead a frantic chase. You will hear them in the distance inside the fence to our house... barking. Saying "We promise not to do what we did the last thousand times!"
You know your kids and your dogs, just keep the above in mind.
WHAT: The Woodzie WHAT? Festival In The Woods HOW: Coleman Lanterns WHEN: Next Woodzie is Spring 2009 BRING: Your Camping Stuff, A Casserole And A Woodzie State Of Mind. WHERE: Near FM 1102 and Hoffman Lane in New Braunfels, TX
The WOODZIE is a very small, very cool, very simple one day music festival on 32 tree covered acres in the Texas Hill Country. It's not commercial in any way, not associated with any business, religion or ulterior motive; it's just us. There is no charge. Great music, great food, a great time strictly for those relaxed enough to appreciate a fine day out in the country. It's all word of mouth - the bottom line is that if you are reading this you and your friends and family, as long as they are peaceful souls, are welcome. Please bring a covered dish to help feed everybody - this is a singer/songwriter event but also very much a big potluck bar-b-que dinner and nature experience. Having a huge picnic and playing guitars out in the woods is pretty hard to beat. Try to get here by early Saturday afternoon and yes you can drive out on Saturday night but please try to camp over - that's part of what makes this thing unique. Bring your songs, we sing around the campfire all night. If you're lucky enough to be able to make the time to get out here you'll never forget it.
