Jason Wilber is this year's headlining musical act. For those of you who may not heard or read, from 3-5pm just before the Woodzie proper, we will be holding a songwriting seminar with Jason.
Who is Jason Wilber and why do you care? Jason plays lead guitar for John Prine and has six of his own CD’s out, which highlight his extraordinary songwriting talents. He’s quite a treasure (and a really swell guy)!
This seminar will be very special, intimate and informative. We expect a lot of people will want to participate. So to keep it manageable and allow Jason to spend some quality time with you we are limiting it to the first twenty or so people. This wonderful learning experience will last approximately 2-2½ hours at a cost of $20. We also ask that you purchase a CD.
Please check in with John or Glenn if you with to participate in this very special opportunity. As an added bonus you will be able to send Jason mp3 files of some of your songs before hand so he can get to know you a little.
Ok, ok, your head is spinning. The Woodzie is a FREE event, so why is there a small price tag on this deal. First of all let me say that a class like this anywhere else out in the world would easily cost $100+. So this is a major Woodzie bargain.
Jason is a friend and volunteered to come do this. However to get here he's had to purchase airfare and car rental. So we are just trying to help him cover his expenses. Just like the t-shirts. You think we're sleeping on mattresses stuffeed with money? Trust me, that t-shirt money doesn't come close to covering the beer and food. Half if we're lucky...
And of course immediately following is the Fifth Annual Woodzie. Pee on a tree!

went to you guys' house concert with him whenever that was. I;m not a musician or songwriter but I recommend him as perfect for that. I bought his CDs and his songs are addictive
Deirdre gave me a copy of "Lost In Your Hometown" several years ago and I was hooked.
I hit repeat on the first song more than 20 times. Before I could even go on and listen to the rest of the record. I called Mitch, I called Glenn; I held the phone up to the speaker. It just hit a nerve with me.
For showing off his songwriting, here's two of many, many great examples:
Pick Up Your Heart
Amazing
Grace
He creates a unique texture in his songs. He's a very good communicator. This workshop will be one for the record books.
Listening to that makes me feel better about saying "ass" in my own songs. At gigs with lots of kids running around and their annoying, easily offendable, yuppie parents, I defer to singing "butt"...but it kinda dilutes the song.
I'm not a songwriter but I love good music. Jason's songs sound really great - I CAN'T WAIT FOR MAY 3rd!!
one reason MySpace kinda works as part of our thing is that you can sample artists' music so easily on their page. We have some great players and it would be hard for us to post all that info on them otherwise. One thing The Woodzie does is to introduce you to new people and musicians. Go down to the "Do You Want To Play" post and sample some of the music on the MySpace pages of people who will be playing. What's up is maybe half of who will be there but it's a start.
As to the Jason Wilber songwriting workshop, I just got off the phone with Glenn and we have 10 people so far and we really need to step up the signing up thing. If you are one of the 10 committed, get your money to Glenn somehow. We really need it before the day of the Woodzie. Sometime in the next 7 or 8 days so that we can hold your seat. Honestly, I know you're special... I'm special, too. I've seen you on the bus. Nobody's too special not to pony up a twenty dollar bill in advance. :)
Once again, John, we just hung up the phone and I forgot to ask you...
Old Timers Disease...
Did you get a chance to charge up one of those power supply/inverter deals?
I'm kinda hung on that idea now because I drove past a mobile taco stand across from the Bun and Barrel the other night (Is that puro San Antonio or what?!?) and had forgotten how loud those generators are. It's a lawn mower engine revving up right next to the peaceful, little, acoustic guitar, hippie, strummy strummy...
I'm mentioning it here in case anyone else has a super heavy duty battery power supply inverter -or- one of those thousand dollar ultra quiet Honda generators they'd like to let us use for the ridge stage.
My little Marshall acoustic amps draw 260 watts total at 120V - 60Hz.
yep, this little Coleman generator is the quieter of the two we have but it's still loud. Remember how we leaned those panels up against it when it powered everything in '94? We set it up 100 feet back in the trees, made the little house for it and it was O.K.
I have it in the shop right new getting tuned up, maybe we need to get it out here and let you fire it up and see what you think.
"'94"?
Just kidding, I did that the other day too...
Yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine.
Speaking of Coleman, does anyone know when the next warehouse sale will be? It would be fantastic if it happened right before the Woodzie.
Yeah well, I'm getting to where I do that kind of thing all the time. What's a decade to a couple of old farts like us? It was 2004. We were doing something different in '94. Not much different.
