any idea yet on a date for next year?

John Whipple said...

we try to spend at least 10 months procrastinating on that. We somehow think that if we wait to a couple months before we can pick a better date. After doing this five times I don't think that's true. Picking a date with everybody's crazy schedules and totally unpredictable Texas weather is a crap shoot no matter when you do it. Maybe we should pick a date way in advance. It has to be one of just five weekends - the four in April or that first weekend in May.

John Whipple said...

Actually, lets not do the first weekend in May to free up the Tejano musicians. Cino de Mayo you know.

How about the last Saturday in April?

Let's look at the projections for the phase of the moon. Full moons are nice at the Woodzie.

Brad was all freaked out about the Lunar phase....kept going on about the moon...he got a hold of a farmers almanac, and an astrologer, ask Brad hell give you the whole Feng Shoe-ee
hippie happy horse-shit day you should have it....lol

it's just Brad's little werewolf problem

on that ridge on the day of a complete full moon it's like the day doesn't stop, it just gets a little silvery and keeps going. That happened one year and it was so crazy bright you could get a moon tan. You'd like a moon tan wouldn't you Mike?

well the Saturday night where the spring moon would be at it's very, very fullest would be April 11th. the Saturdays on either side of that would have some moon. The last Saturday in April would be dark like it was this year.

but that was cool, too.

i guess we need to look at when Easter is and when school breaks are.

I would love it if other people will talk amongst themselves and make this decision. That's what happened this year and it worked out great. It will always be a roll of the dice... a few days before this years event it was miserable and a few days after it was a sauna. We scratched our lotto ticket and there was dry, cool mountain like weather. That just ain't going to happen every year.

I would like earlier in April instead of May because it weights it more towards cooler instead of hotter. When it's cold you move closer to the fire, with heat and humidity there's nothing you can do to escape it.

That's just my thought.

I vote for Saturday, May 11!!

Jimmie Bell Whipple said...

Or April 11th if it's not too tough for people getting ready for Fiesta.

John Whipple said...

Eight track tape day? How in the world could we not have the Woodzie on 8-Track tape day! April 11th would be a great day. If anybody has a major problem with that then lay it out now. But remember we could contact the International 8-Track Tape Day Federation and try to get our event sanctioned.

Malcolm would you be in charge of the projection screen next year? I have the stuff, it just needs to be setup and turned on.

John Whipple said...

I'm not so good at the setting up and turning on.

Anonymous said...

If it's on Easter slash eight track tape day we could have a passion play where Jesus rolls away the stone holding an eight track cartridge of Peter Frampton Comes Alive.

just an idea.

never mind.

John Whipple said...

Jimmie, what to do people have to do to get ready for Fiesta? Practice drinking? :)

Anonymous said...

I'd be happy to take care of the projection screen setup, John. I do have a bit of experience in that area.

John Whipple said...

awesome, your name is going on the list as "person in charge" of projectors. We should look for some 60's background footage. Besides whatever is playing on it, it'll also help bring some ambient light to help see the stage better.

I bet we could get a DVD copy of this kind of light show. That'd be wild behind The Swindles and The Lavens. :)

Anonymous said...

Actually, I have three of those types of DVD's. I use them before the start of an outdoor movie. I was thinking we could also use the feed from Chris' video camera.

John Whipple said...

That sounds perfect. Everybody will really enjoy it.

The Easter weekend has it's benefits. It would be at the end of a week long Easter break for most schools so families would have an easier time getting ready. Could we hide eggs?

Anonymous said...

We did it on Easter weekend once before and our daughter (a student at Texas State) made jello shots in plastic eggs. They were everywhere!

Yes we can definitely have an Easter egg hunt - it's a great place for it.

John Whipple said...

Easter would be a really easy date for everybody to remember.

Anonymous said...

I think Easter would be a great weekend for it.

Easter's great!

I was reading the Woodzie MySpace site and Mike suggest a "mini-Woodzie". Would you consider that?

I think it comes from all the comments I've seen people making about just having a hard time waiting a whole year!!

John Whipple said...

There's kind of a steering committee for the Woodzie. A loose and highly unofficial one but one none the less. It's Casey and Glenn and Kim and Chris and Mitch and Renee and Randy and The Lavens... the list goes on, it's about a dozen or so founders who have been helping with it since the very beginning. If it's cool with all of them, then Easter is surely cool with us.

On the mini-Woodzies, they would have to be very, very small.

AND Jimmie and Glenn and I were at Riley's singing at the open mic tonight and she bought up that this was a topic and we were laughing that we should let everybody who's interested come to a mini-woodzie in the heat of summer. Then it would be people posting "please don't make me go to a bamboo steamer Woodzie ever again!" :)

What our core family and friends group does is stick to outings by water during the summer. We're river and ocean people. The Woodzie just about has to be a cool weather thing.

Anonymous said...

I don't play but I'd come to a mini woodzie and hand deliver beers to keep the singers cool.

Anonymous said...

Where'd everybody go? The comments dried up like alligator creek this summer...We only have 300 and somethin' days ta git ready fer da next one. My tent is already on the ridge.....

Jimmie Bell Whipple said...

I tried to do a fall Woodzie last year on John's birthday in September but was informed that I was out of my mind. It's just too hot in south Texas until at least October, and then you never know if you'll get a hurricane or a cold front or an attack of Turkey Buzzards.

John Whipple said...

The Woodzie hibernates until spring. I've noticed on each year's blog, once we say "See Ya Next Year" people take it literally. We have people coming to look at the photos but that's it.

This year's blog surely was the best yet. I never expected that much traffic - it was hundreds of people a day at the height of it. Some people don't realize but for every person who said something there were hundreds who were just reading. We had curious people from all over the world following what was going on. And then we mirrored it on the MySpace page and had 4.000 International views there. Eighty percent of the readers weren't within driving distance from here, most outside of Texas, so it's not going to lead to any overpopulation at the next one. It's just fun that they get to know about it. Maybe get the idea to do their own.

Anyway back to the topic - a mini-woodzie in the fall as soon as we think it might cool down would be great. I've "warmed" to the idea. Maybe it could be the first planning discussion for year 6.

Anonymous said...

So when do you think you might start the blog for Woodzie 6? Is it too early right now?
