Here comes the 5th Annual Woodzie that people have been talking and planning and imagining about longer than any other. But... when the smoke clears from that, no matter how long we've been dreaming, the day comes that we wake up with the reality of how close it is just starring us right in the face. I was walking through the kitchen in my shorts early this morning, holding a cup of coffee and rubbing the sleep out of by eyes as I glanced at the calendar. Happy The Woodzie Is Almost Here And We're Not Even Close To Being Ready day. It comes annually; I personally celebrate it each year with the customary Whipple planning catch phrase "oh, shit!".
I'm self aware enough to realize that nothing ever really starts getting done until we get to "oh, shit!". Starting a new blog every year to help get the Woodzie regulars on the same page is one of the first steps so..... here we go!

Wow it good to see the date posted, maybe it won't be so cold this year.
Thanks to all for the wonderful hospitality in 07, we loved the music and all the awesome folks we met. Great sunset. This year I plan on roasting a goat if the Veggie folks don't mind. Bring your tortillas!! & I'll make my Shiner Beans too.
Smiles & Warmth
I think that moving it a month later into May will prevent any likelihood of another freak cold snap. It was cold... but it was good. Good and cold. Best time I had all year. I'll be there again.
Joseph, I'm so glad you're gonna do that. Roasting a goat has been at the top of my personal "wanna see at the Woodzie" list. Vegetarians can cover their eyes!
It'll be back to the basics kind of thing. And that'll take a big load off of my chicken cookin' responsibilities. I'm about tired of chicken.
thanks so much!!
Hello everybody! I have been in Germany for the last 17 years and just returned to the states. I am from SA so not only am I looking forward to the Woodzie I am looking forward in making lots of great music. I play Harps in style, pick guitar, tinker a little on the Piano and would love to meet more of you! LETS JAM and PARTY!!:-)
Sounds great, Arte. All the Woodzie regulars know Harold Thomas. He called and said you were a good friend - we're looking forward to meeting you. A good harmonica player willing to sit in with people is one of the things the Woodzie's been missing. You're gonna be a very popular guy.
John, I've known Harold since 1967 way back during the Kite FM Now Sounds! HAHAHAHA, not too long ago.
By the way, to anyone:
In the late 80's I used to go to a Jam session on Tuesday nights somewhere off of Austin HWY in SA. I think the girl who played guitar was named Angie and her sister who played the drums was terry. I could be wrong with the names, but these Jams were awesome. Every Tuesday we never knew who was going to show up but by midnight it usually became great! I remember a piano player who would show up with his sisters and a piano in the back of his van and we would help him unload his piano on to the stage.
Any one out there remember a Jam like this? does anyone one the sisters, the Guitar pickewr was Tall and always had a Chicken (or Rooster) hanging from the Neck of her AX. Ring a Bell.
I am so looking forward to the Woodsie and some mighty good Jams.

Well, I think we could round down the number of girls named Teri who played drums in San Antonio to be only or at least include Teri Hogan. If it was Teri Hogan then that's some major bragging rights in Whippleworld.
how many terri's who play drums and has a sister who plays guitar?
I know those girls. Angie pops up here and there, once in a while. Last time I jammed with her was a couple of years ago, she appeared at a gig I was sitting in on at Texas 46. They don't play much anymore. Angie plays pretty good drums also.
I think that jam may have been at Rascals (which is still there). There was another across the street next to the Bun and Barrel. That place is now Tongs Thai restaurant.
So, I think I got lost, are we talking about Terri Hogan? And are the Hogans booked to join us? (please please please)
I'm also lost on the answer to that. Doesn't sound like it. Glenn?
And no, I don't think John and Teri will be there because, like all my Tejano bands that I would love to have come, they'll be working. The weekend nearest Cinco de Mayo is as big as New Years Eve for gigging musicians in this neck of the woods.
I don't think so. I'm gonna go with not. Of course this would have been pre-Hogan.
Honestly I hung more with Angie and knew her sister peripherally.
Is that none commital enough?!?!
you guys seem to have a great sense of humor so I think I toss this zinger out... so you're saying the Woodzie will mostly be Americana pickers who can't find a gig? :)
I have too many gigs this week to sit around and answer that.
Your ball John!
(I'll just get in trouble...)
And I won't get in trouble? Here's my official statement: contrary to our best efforts this year may not be the total Tejano/Americana love fest Glenn and I have hoped for. We'll make that happen next year. We'll find a Tejano band or at least a good accordion player somewhere - I'm looking under the sofa seat cushions right now. When we can get a 50/50 mix of Americana and Tejano players the Woodzie will be perfect. It just ain't gonna happen anywhere near May 5th.
I didn't go risky enough on that so I'll add this... Tejanos were the first Texans and they aren't afraid to pee in the woods. :) there... I said it!
"so you're saying the Woodzie will mostly be Americana pickers who can't find a gig?"
We just put it on our calendar two months back, and booked around it.
Last year we came to the Woodzie straight from playing the Poteet Strawberry Fest, and that was kind of a drag...
I'll bring my accordion, if it helps. Of course, I'm a terrible accordion player.
I'm just thinking about you guys. Don't want you to be disappointed.
i sure didn't mean that the way it sounded. i just meant hard to get a americana gig because of all the cinco celebrations on that one weekend. on that weekend in s. texas there has to be a huge advantage to being a tejano dance band.
Hahahahahahahahaha!!
Not all of us Americana/Folky/Singer-Songwriter types are slackers, but we all pee in the woods!
I'm glad this discussion happened. Now when people ask "Where are all your Tejano musicians?". I can just say "we covered all that on the website".
Glenn, don't they have stickers that kindergarten teachers put on kid's shirts when they're getting potty trained? We need some "I peed in the Woods" stickers. With a little smiley face. :)
Excellent. A badge of honor.
